Today, I have a news (video) clip about a new drug that helps people who have a "persistently positive outlook on life."
|
|
 |
The following ONN news clip reports that the FDA approved the first ever depressant drug. (Note: NOT an anti-depressant.) It’s a proposed treatment for the "approximately 20 million Americans who are insufferably cheery."
The depressant treats a wide range of symptoms including: "Participating in Community Theatre" and "Organizing Neighborhood Potlucks."
Click the play button below to watch the 2-minute video clip and then make sure to read my commentary afterward.
Please note: The video contains profanities (one written, one verbal)…
Real or Spoof?
When I first saw this video I wasn’t sure if it was real or a spoof. We’ve already seen so many crazy drugs and treatments approved by the FDA – this is hardly unbelievable. Which is why it’s so funny – it exaggerates just a bit what we’ve come to expect.
It may even be on Big Pharma’s cutting room floor. I can see this striking the money cord with some "marketing genius." They’ve already created diseases out of so many afflictions (e.g. "restless leg syndrome," "shyness," "heartburn from overating")… why not add "excessive happiness" to the list.
The Standardization of Moods
A growing theme with world powers is the "standardization" of how we live. Where a select few get to decide what is "normal" and then require everybody else to conform. We are even seeing that with the new agriculture bill (H.R. 875) that aims to force all farms to use GMO seeds and pesticides (under the guise of food safety).
In this Depondex spoof we are seeing a different kind of standardization. The standardization of moods. As "Eva Hendry" said in the clip: "Now Jeff and I can just waste a night sitting on the couch watching a TV show neither of us enjoy – like a regular couple."
The "Natural" Way to Feeling Crummy
But, as the video points out, a "natural" alternative would simply involve feeding people a diet of corn syrup and white bread while denying them any form of exercise. Based on that statement, one may conclude that doing the opposite would alleviate depression.
Is happiness that simple? Probably not for everyone, but it’s definitely a good start. People who eat real food, exercise every day and watch little TV tend to feel happier than the norm.
Sadly, when you are already feeling bad, junk food and an evening with the TV remote seem more attractive than going for a swim, preparing healthy food or reading a good book.
But everything comes down to habits and what you are used to. You can get trapped in a cycle of unhappiness or in a cycle of happiness.
Unhappiness or happiness can be a choice! I choose happiness and always try to look for the best feeling-thought that I can think.

P.S. What did you think of the comedy clip? Did you think it was real at first? Have you found living a healthier lifestyle has a noticeable impact on your happiness? Please leave your comments in the comment box below…
P.P.S. By the way, I wrote the Personal Power column, this month, for Dr. Christiane Northrup’s Women’s Wisdom Circle. It’s called the “The Magic Mineral: Magnesium Supports Women at Every Stage of Life."

Thanks for sharing this video clip which i found totally hilarious! It certainly is a wake up call as to what depths the Big Pharma cartels could go to controling our thoughts hearts & minds. Scary stuff indeed.
As a practitioner of Natural Medicine for 23 years i fully endorse that Carolyn is saying around lifestyle, with the added proviso that its what you do every day thats important.
However during lifestyle transition i encourage my patients to have a “Freedom foods day” once in awhile, where they can eat what they desire and blob out watching TV. They soon realise this is not where its at but for the day B4 a womans period it can be therapeutic until the Natural Medicines i’ve prescribed kick in!
Its also a great startegy for weaning kids off junk foods. Give them a “junk food Saturday” where they can eat as much rubbish as they want. Then wait and see how many weekends of this they need till they get that how they feel on Sunday is direcly related to what they ate the day B4. They soon figure it out and ask for no more junk food saturdays and no more junk food !
Keep up the great work you are doing Carolyn

LOL!!!! Classic. =)
Didn’t anyone notice Bobbie Battista? She used to be on CNN didn’t she?. Now she’s doing comedy bits for The Onion Network, a satire/spoof site.
Well, this video clip was both so absurd that it was hilarious while at the same time so close to home that it is quite sad really. We are already living in a world where babies are injected with neurotoxic and carcinognic substances under the absurd pretext that this will protect them against infectious diseases, while another carcinogen and neurotoxin which is an excellent rat- and cockroach poison is added to our drinking water and tooth pastes while falsely claiming that it prevents tooth decay. There are numerous other examples. There is a video on youtube called ‘Creating a nation of zombies’ which is a real eye-opener as regards the mental asylum type of society we have been made to inhabit.
Years ago I listened to a podcast interview of a woman who was placed into a mental hospital for being happy. They had a weird clinical name for the condition. She was always cheerful and optimistic and they could not understand why. Obviously she must be crazy.
Isn’t that a spoof from ‘onion news’?
Oh bother! Happiness is such a bummer Christopher Robin! With Despondex I don’t have to be happy anymore. Smile
The Onion is always a spoof! And they are good at it, so it seems
Thanks! Big Pharma can and probably will carry on down the road they are travelling its the responsibility of us the masses to awake so glad you have Dr. Carolyn. Keep Shining. Blessed Love.
Where can I get some of this stuff?
My wife is always trying to get me to do fun things.
It’s so annoying. She needs help.
Hello, dear Carolyn Dean
When I checked out first time this video, I felt like watching news at April 1. Now I’m confused. Who is going to decide that you are too happy? Your parents, neighbours, roommate?
I always feel happy. If not, I’m trying to be and latter I’m because I like this condition.
Thanks for posting this video.
Sincerely, Nemira
Hello Nemira,
You decide how happy you are and want to be!
The video was a satire done by http://www.TheOnion.com. It’s a great lesson in taking responsibility, not only for your physical health, but for what you read and see and believe. The internet is a great source of information but you have to have your filters on to separate the real from the not so real. I loved the piece because it’s so close to what seems to be happening in the wide, wide world of drugs.
Thanks for writing.
Aloha
Carolyn
You are so right..Big Pharma is bit scary to me. We must take control of our own lives and health.
Keep up the good work.
Is this a real drug? These are the same people that have been lobbying to abolish all form or ” natural ” ( and might I say VERY successful ) treatments…. This reminds me of the Sopranos—- SPOILER —–, where the Uncle ( Tony’s Uncle ), gets put into a crazy house, they force him to take certain meds that make him slowly degrade the functions of his brains until he’s completely crazy and unable to even talk….. FDA approved, what a crock of….. !!!!!
Not a real drug yet, Nicolas, just give ‘em time, though.
Aloha
Carolyn
I just looked at the cure for the too cheery Fun but I take your point that we are a people over prescribed, creating illness where there is none. This is an interesting site a friend just sent it to me and I am glad she has.
