Thank you for writing, Nicole.
Today I was at the garden and took picture of limes and papayas and bananas, all three totally green and bursting with life.
I've had so many people sending comments to the blog and privately about getting down to earth and growing their own gardens.
Each of us is inspiring others to do the same. It's very exciting.

I remember my father's victory garden in 1944-1966 when he passed away at the age of 77. His garden was a city block on the outskirts of Chicago. People came from from all over the city to view this magnificent work of art with it's canals and stepping stones. I didn't appreciate it until he was gone. Now because of the deer,I garden in hanging pots and patio tomatoes. I'm raising cucumbers, two kinds of squash, green and red peppers. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. It's a joy to watch things grow and eat the fruits of your labors.

Great idea. My husband and I converted a totally unusable hill area of our yard that was covered with weeds and ivy in a 40' wide 3 raised tier area. The idea was to landscape and make it an area where we can relax. Part of the it will be a vegetable garden and we are excited about that.

It's wonderful to know the yard sharing idea has been around so long. For me it was a childhood dream that people would share space and grow food together.

I built hyperlocavore dot com a free yard sharing community - so anyone anywhere could find people to grow food with!

I hope you will visit. Maybe your neighbors are already here!

My father taught me how to garden when I was very young. He came from the depression era and farming is what kept the family alive. I have been gardening ever since. I have two raised beds in the back yard and have feed my family for years, with my own home grown produce. I also make my own dog food for my two beautiful Labs. I love it when I can put home grown vegetables into their food. Any overripe beans get frozen and are excellent for their food in the winter. Just spending time in the garden is so therapeutic. I also plant flowers and herbs and make my own hanging baskets indoors from young plants. It is so wonderful to watch them grow and by starting them this way I find they out last the already mature store bought one's. Happy gardening to all!!!

Mmmmmm, loved this post...My young boys and I just came in from a 'herb walk' through the forest enjoying all the budding trees and trying to identify wild edibles like dandelion, plaintain, lambsquarters, nettles, etc. It is still early and so many flowers and edible weeds have yet to come up, but we did see a beautiful patch of Trillium, some baby pussy willows, a big bunny and we even got a little wet crossing the stream balancing on rocks. When we came across a huge Birch tree that was 'shedding' the most beautiful salmon and silver color bark, we thanked this tree and peeled some off to make a letter...Mother Nature is the most wonderful friend and teacher for us all, and tomorrow hubs and the boys and I start planting our veggie and herb garden- YAE! :)

Hi Karen,
Thanks for the tip. There's a use for all those abandoned wading pools.
The plants are happy and you're happy.
Aloha
