Another note: I think I used too much transdermal oil last night for the first time. I could not fall asleep. I did not have this problem with the calm. I took the calm with it. I have not taken calcium in awhile. I thought maybe that I was taken too much magnesium without calcium so I took 300 mg calcium citrate. I woke up with a leg cramp! That has not happened in weeks. Should I just get my calcium from food for now?
THanks

Dr. Dean,
Thanks so much for your quick reply. One more question. Is it okay to take melatonin until my magnesium levels are raised? My sleep is somewhat better but I stil have frequent awakenings. I started taking the melatonin before I found out about the magnesium. I take 2 mg but still wake up frequently but I am now able to fall back to sleep. I read that magnesium helps regulate melatonin.I did not want to disrupt that by taking melatonin. I thank God for directing me to your book and I now know what my family members are getting for Christmas!

Hello Cheryl,
Most people can take oral mag and transdermal mag. Just let loose bowel movements be your guide. Loose bowel movements indicate too much magnesium.
Aloha

Dr. Dean,
I have just purchased your book and cannot wait to read it. For months I had foot and toe cramps, anxiety,my body was nervous and tense (My doctor commented on how "wired" I was). I wanted to unzip my skin and jump out. I thought it was my age of 52.I then developed PVC heart palpitations and was told to live with them. Finally, I hit a wall and could not sleep! I found Naturaaly calm and have been on it for 2 weeks. The heart palps went first, then the foot cramps. I still have nightime awakenings but it is getting better. I take the calm 3 times a day for a total of 4 teaspoons. I just ordered the magnesium oil. Can I take oral and transdermal?
I forogot to mention I was under intense stress for 3 months I think I really depleted any magnesium I had in reserve!

Hello Peter,
I don't know specifically what's causing the flushing/redness of your face with magnesium but I do know that when I've had IV magnesium, I get that reaction and many people do.
When it is specific to a certain body part, I wonder if it's the magnesium flushing out toxins from that particular area.
The face is often targeted because of old dental anesthetic stored in tissues or dental amalgams with mercury.
I hope this helps.
Aloha

Dr. Dean,

I came across your book and website and started taking magnesium (250mg x 2 per day). However, one of the side effects that I am getting is flushing/redness of my face. Is that normal? Will this go away?

Hello Anna,
I speak about the magnesium malate studies in my book. It seems to be helpful to some people. I'm more concerned about getting the magnesium absorption up. For fibromyalgia, which is why people may want to add malic acid, I work with the angstrom mineral combinations: Sports Blend or Balanced Life and angstrom magnesium. The source I use is Complete H2O Minerals at www.123minerals.com.
Aloha

I have read a lot of info lately about the importance and benefit of taking malic acid with magnesium. You haven't mentioned it in your blog. What is your comment on malic acid?

Hello Christine,
Thanks for your email. For minerals other than magnesium, I have concerns about absorption and elimination of the excess minerals. Magnesium seems to take care of itself if there is too much by flushing out through the bowel and the kidneys. But you will read a case history in Module #4 about too much mag citrate in someone with kidney failure. I recommend Complete H2O Minerals for calcium. They do have a MCB (magnesium/calcium/boron) vial for bones and heart. It's very low potency and 100% absorbed at the cellular level, which is where I think we have to go with mineral replacement so we don't get overloaded by unabsorbed minerals.
Aloha

Hello Dr. Dean

I have been reading the site for a few weeks now and I have also signed up for the modules...Great information! I do have a question about the mag...I started taking the natural calm 3x per day (no side effects yet). I did not realize that there was a natural calm with calcium (gluconate). What is your opinion on this?
