Aloha Teshuvah,
I'm sorry to hear about your squat experience. Squats are a very powerful exercise because your full weight is involved in the movement and the major joints that are being worked are the knees. If you swing past your "comfort" zone, which you learn by doing it slowly, you can "overdo" the exercise and compromise the normal position of the knee. In a roller blading accident a few years ago, I fell on my bottom and in an instant both my bent knees fell to either side dislocating both tibias. Knees are just a ball and socket and do depend on the surrounding liagments and tendons and muscles to keep them in place. Magnesium is vital in keeping those tissues and bone healthy and strong and for helping to heal injuries.
Aloha

When doing squats, it is important to not squat so low that your bum is below your knees. The reason is it puts too much pressure on the knees. I found out the hard way when I squatted way over my weight, went too low and something in my knee snapped and I had to go to a sports doctor. I couldn't hardly walk for weeks. I didn't know about Magnesium deficiency at the time and that probably made a big difference because I recall Magnesium is required for good ligament and tendon connections. I'm not exactly clear on the latter point. Perhaps Carolyn or someone else can elaborate.

Hello Joyce,
It's the first time I've heard of the MagneTrainer. It sounds and looks very interesting.
Thanks for sharing.

I too had the challenge of not enough time to exercise. One Saturday night while babysitting my 2 granddaughters, I was just sitting there, thinking, I could be doing SOMETHING to exercise right now. So, I had a brainstorm and started looking online for exercise bikes, which lead me to discovering the Mini-Exercise bike, which is basically just pedals. I purchased one in January, and have been using it daily ever since. I have an 8+ hour per day desk job, so I use it at work. It is very quiet, so it does not disturb anyone. I have since lost over 30 lbs by using my Magne-Trainer daily and just doing a 1/2 hour workout with weights or ab workout 4-5 days a week. It helps me stay awake, has made my mood better, helped my arthritis and sciatic pain. Since purchasing this, at least 4 of my friends have purchased it and are using it (including the 94 year old mother of a co-worker) and 2 others have it on their Christmas list!

Well, I guess I am part of the minority because I love to workout. I run, bike, swim, lift weights, and do yoga. Exercise for me is something much more than activities that help me maintain a "normal" weight. It is more like therapy than anything else. Of course I have days when the last thing I want to do is go to the gym. But luckily there are not many days like that. I think the key is finding the exercise that you really like. Just like Carol who said that tap dancing would be more fun. When it's fun it won't seem like just another chore to get done in the day. Also, finding a friend to join you is always much more fun!

Of too Paris in the morning. Three days of ancestral exercise, quite looking forward to it. I should still be able to read posts that's if reception is good in Paris.

Exercises are good I got a bull worker and it's going rusty and have a squash racket which is very dusty. Maybe get to use it when return from Europe.

Laffoly exhibition should be fun and again art galleries are a good way to enjoy my favourite exercise, walking, no where near the same as typing and reading still, I like these two exercises these days.

Thanks for your structural post Dr. Carolyn Dean.

I do not have a car I have a bike But since I have had a computer at home I think that has put a stone on from sitting still instead of going out more and doing more in the evening I have to limit it to an hour or something

Interesting isn't it? Your comments on no time to exercise. I have ALWAYS maintained that we find the time for the things we WANT to do. What we really don't like or WANT to do, we say that we don't have time.......myself included. I hate exercising. I go-go-go all day long and have lots of energy, but don't like to exercise per se or sweat. Ha Ha! Plus it isn't any fun, for me at least. Think I'll take tap dancing lessons, instead. At least it's to music and I LOVE to dance. We'll see!
