Hello Rani,
Thank you for your email. I went into medicine already interested in natural medicine. In the mid 70's in Halifax, Canada there were no naturopathic programs. It wasn't until I was in my internship in Toronto that I found one. But I would still do it the same way. It would have been so much harder to put up with medicine and all it's biases if I already had so many choices with naturopathic medicine in my head.
Medicine desperately wants to put doctors in a box and it does not address the "spirit" and it does not address nutrition. But it's the so-called gold standard that people listen to so I'm glad I put in the effort to get both my MD and ND so I can approach what I do by knowing both.
Aloha

I don't know but I had a similar but shorter experience once when I made a chocolate smoothie before bedtime with almond milk, cacao, frozen banana, and coconut oil. I don't know why...I think I put more coconut oil than usual in and my body rejected it. Maybe your coconut milk had a similar effect?...

Also, on a side note. I just googled "M.D., N.D." thinking I wouldn't find anyone with both credentials, but here you are!!! You are my idol! I even have the Edison quote about The Doctor of the Future hung up in my room haha. I want to combine naturopathic/aryuvedic medicine with allopathic medicine, but for now I'm just a lowly pre-med student. Being aware of the effectiveness of alternative medicine, why did you still pursue an M.D.? Was it ever conflicting for you in medical school? Did the N.D. provide you something more than you could have learned by exploring on your own after attaining a medical license? ...Sorry I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but I am trying to figure out how to combine the best both worlds have to offer. I would really appreciate your insights!

Hello again,

Do you know what's more interesting than food poisoning or what caused it? In this observers' opinion, it's what cures it.

And, it's surprising that only one respondent, Rebecca, asked: " Oh. And why didn’t you try charcoal? I thought that was supposed to absorb the bad bugs"

Charcoal has been used for this and many other kinds of poisionings for centeries. Indians even used it for snake bites. Often, thay would place a stick in the fire 'till was well burnt and then chew on the charcoal build-up.

It can even be used for such minor things as an upset stomack. It's an absolute must for the week-end camp-out. But, more importantly, in everyones medicine cabinet.

Just my opinion,

Roy Juengel

I think it sounded like something I had one time, maybe perhaps twice. I finally figured out that the oil was rancid that I was using. At times it can be rancid upon opening a new bottle. Olive oil should always appear clear and have a fresh smell. You can actually smeall oil that is rancid, even organic oils can go rancid. It can make you terribly sick. Either the tomato sauce or the pesto sauce, possibly both. Take care.

I think it could have been the "homemade pesto from the freezer" which may have been spoiled before freezing. I'm sure you washed the veggies,
and tomato sauce is quite acidic. Let's hope it wasn't the cocoa. Spoiled frozen banana and coconut milk you'd notice right away.

Hello Debra,
You said to lighten up...that's exactly what I do in my Future Health Now! program.
It's about knowing that you have choices in the food you eat AND about having a "relaxed" attitude. Much better than being fanatic about anything! If you absolutely LOVE what you are eating, no matter what it is, your body will adapt. If you are guilty for eating something you "shouldn't" your body might reject it. We are such amazing, mysterious beings!
Aloha

My first suspect is the coconut milk with the tomato sauce being second. I just have this feeling that coconut milk (fresh from the coconut)is full of nutrition and active/live ingredients and so requires special care as far a keeping in the fridge, etc.

Too much obsession and "sharing" on the whole yucky deal. From a intuitive level I think you may consider just relaxing a little on the whole WHOLE food thing and venture out to enjoy a little downhome foods with downhome folks. A little fat on your bones is healthier than 'they' are saying. Go hang out over some mashed potatoes and iced tea and lighten up.
