Faking Our Foods

Millions have been led to believe that a mixture of ingredients used in antifreeze and hemorrhoid cream makes a healthier topping than cream from a cow. (Photo of stewed nectarines covered with cream compliments of Pfctdayelise.)

“A delicious blend of sugar, wax and condom lube.” That’s how Wired Magazine described the wonders of Cool Whip a few years back.

In our modern era of “Better Living Through Chemistry” Cool Whip was created as a substitute for real cream. But what was wrong with real cream? The propaganda of our time still claims it causes heart attacks and weight gain.

Here’s a more likely explanation for why big manufacturers felt the need to provide a substitute for cream from a cow: It costs less to produce and lasts forever. They could sell it at a cheaper price while still making more profit.

Truth be told, cream from organic milk provides an excellent source of fat. Obviously you don’t want to be eating it all day. It’s packed with calories. But in moderation, healthy saturated fats provide slow-burning energy and are an essential part of one’s diet.

The fact that real cream is more expensive is nature’s way of protecting you from overindulgence!

Of course the food industry realized they couldn’t sway the masses to their artificial substitutes so easily. A cheaper price tag wasn’t motivation enough. They’ve also worked hard to make you think that avoiding dairy fat is the healthier choice.

And so misleading ads lead the masses to believe that something as artificial as Cool Whip is healthier than cow’s cream. Cool Whip contains Polysorbate 60 (an ingredient used in sexual lubricants and antifreeze) and sorbitan monostearate (a synthetic wax used in hemorrhoid cream).

Yep, sexual lubricant, hemorrhoid cream and antifreeze – sounds so much healthier than cow’s milk!
