In a move worthy of the Spanish Inquisition, the British Medical Association has declared that homeopathy is witchcraft! This comes at a time when the cost of medical care and prescription drugs is skyrocketing. And the public is turning toward less expensive and less invasive forms of medicine. A motion was passed by the BMA. Yes, I just noticed that I put motion and BM in the same sentence. Let’s move on…opps, I did say “move” didn’t I, but not movement. OK, enough Freudian slips, that’s exactly what I think of this inquisition, it’s a bunch of BS. Why can’t conventional medicine make its diagnoses, sew people up, take organs out when necessary, but allow people to take helpful and harmless alternative therapies as they please? But conventional medicine seems to want a monopoly on our disease and doesn’t care about the cost to our pocketbooks or our health. BMA demands scientific proof for alternative medicine but conveniently forgets that most of what modern medicine does is very unscientific. A study on bypass surgery showed that simply cutting open the chest and doing nothing helped just as much as doing the whole procedure. When those results were published, did medicine say “Opps, bypass surgery isn’t working, we’d better stop.” Nope, they just kept on going. When studies show that antidepressants work only 40% of the time, do doctors stop prescribing them? Nope, they just keep on going. When Dr. Allen Roses, an executive with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in the U.K. publicly stated (December 8, 2003) that most prescription medicines do not work on most people, did GSK stop making prescription drugs? Nope, they just kept on going. And when study after study shows research bias because drug companies pay for the results they want, does that change anything? No. And even worse, the modus operandi now seems to be to discredit supplements and alternative medicine practices including homeopathy. The message for today is to be very aware that there is a battle going on involving drug-based medicine and natural medicine. But it doesn’t have to affect you in a negative way. Use your common sense about what form of medicine to use and when to use it. It’s got to feel right to you whatever you use. For example, when a client was told to bring $250,000 to a cancer care center to guarantee his treatment, that was his final clue that something was very wrong in the conventional medical system. And that’s when he chose to balance his care using alternative medicine.
