On March 27, 2010 I was on a Health Freedom Panel with some pretty dynamic people. Our master of ceremonies was Robert Scott Bell. The panelists were Jonathan Emord, Dr. Leonard Coldwell, Charlie Brown Esq. and myself.
Since the health insurance debate was in full swing at that time, there were questions from the floor about this process. Some people hated it and some people loved it. Some people loved the fact that they would finally have affordable insurance coverage. But the liberty-loving panelists made the argument that the government has us fighting about an insurance scheme that only offers one form of treatment – drugs and surgery. There is no provision for preventive medicine. The real preventive medicine – not just more radiation from mammograms and invasive tests.
The real preventive medicine is programs like Future Health Now! I’ve always asked, why isn’t a huge chunk of money devoted to funding clinics that offer nutrition classes, cooking classes, stress management, weight loss support groups, exercise programs? Research confirms over and over that at least 80% of our health problems are stress and lifestyle related but that never translates into treatment programs.
The cynical among us know why – there is no money in these programs. Drug companies and allopathic medicine will lose customers when everyone stays healthy. Insurance companies don’t even seem to care. In fact, I learned recently that insurance companies have a big chunk of their investment portfolio locked up in junk food companies!
Once again, I’m pointing out the obvious. And the obvious is for you to take the best care of your health that you can so that you don’t end up in the current health care system where they are only trained to offer you drugs and surgery. Where doctors are prosecuted for practicing outside that standard. Where drug companies are taking over the supplement industry insuring that we only get substandard synthetic products. Where insurance billing codes are owned by the American Medical Association so you won’t be covered for lifestyle health care. None of that has to be in your experience as you stay healthy and happy in the universe of your choice.
