Magnesium and Sex

Carolyn Dean MD ND | Tuesday, September 14, 2010

I wanted to put Sexy Magnesium as the title for this blog but then the spam filters would go really crazy and nobody would get to see this very important bit of advice.

A reader asked me if I thought magnesium had any effect on sex. As it happens, I’ve gotten a number of emails from satisfied magnesium users who say it’s improved their orgasmability. Yup, that’s a new word. Or we could call it giz-gasm like granny does on Squidbillies.

One reader said that when she takes magnesium before sex it stimulates a stronger orgasm. Another found that magnesium allows her to have her first orgasms. She’s pretty happy with that.

How does it work? Magnesium increases circulation, relaxes muscles and can be very calming – all the prerequisites for having a good sex life. Or, at least, some of them!

That’s right, run, don’t walk to your nearest magnesium outlet and start enjoying yourself. If I can’t get you to take magnesium for your insomnia, muscle cramps, heart palpitations, angina and headaches maybe I can get you interested in your giz-gasms.

Magnesium Recommendations
Magnesium Citrate Powder. You can find a powdered drink mix at most health food stores called Natural Calm or online at www.vitacost.com. Add to water for a fizzy soda-like drink sweetened with organic stevia. The dosage is 1 tsp – 1 TBSP once or twice per day. This form can give the laxative effect so space your doses throughout the day.

Magnesium dimalate is the preferred form if you just want to pop a tablet. Jigsaw Magnesium w/ SRT is a sustained-release magnesium with improved absorption and less laxative effect. The dosage is 4-6 tablets a day.

Magnesium Oil is a non-laxative form of magnesium. It’s a combination of supersaturated magnesium chloride in distilled water. Oil, gel and cream forms are available. The cream form is unique and has a less sticky feel on the skin and you can leave it on all day. It will absorb through the skin into your tissues. A good source is LL’s Magnetic Clay.

Angstrom Liquid Magnesium
is the form I use personally to avoid the laxative effect. It’s absorbed 100% at the cellular level. Minerals enter cells through channels 5 angstroms wide (about 5 billionth of a meter). We normally rely on plants to break magnesium down to this size but some companies use a process that breaks magnesium down to 5 angstroms. In my experience 72 mg of angstrom magnesium has the same beneficial effect as 5-10 times the other forms of magnesium, which means 360-720mg with no laxative effect and with a stronger beneficial effect. My current angstrom mineral recommendation is HealthShop101.

If you want more details on magnesium and sex, you can find case histories in my online eBook How To Change Your Life With Magnesium. It’s only $5.00, the price of a mocha latte cappuccino!
