If you’ve never visited Dubai you can’t possibly know what it’s like. I had a very distorted picture of the country from media images of buildings in the sand towering toward the heavens. I love Dubai and I love the people and I’ll write more about Dubai in future blogs. Today’s post is about diabetes. Most social life and business life centers on the malls. Dubai Mall is the biggest in the world with a huge shark-filled aquarium, amazing fountains and hundreds of stores. Emirates Mall houses a full-size ski slope. The climate-control allows people respite from the harsh temperatures outside and lots of entertainment. The malls have essentially transplanted western culture into the desert. Besides Dior and Cartier they also have huge Food Courts with McDonalds, KFC and Baskin Robbins. And everyone loves junk food! Which means the worst part of Dubai is the high incidence of diabetes. Diabetes in the U.S. is at 8%. The incidence in Dubai is a horrifying 40%. Instead of slowly building up their refined sugar intake over decades, the Middle East has taken it all in on Big Gulp! Whereas America went from 5 pounds of sugar per person annually in 1900 to about 150 pounds per year in 2010 allowing for some adaptation. I went to Dubai to speak at the 3rd Annual Antiaging & Aesthetic Medicine Conference. I’m also Medical Director of a clinic in Dubai which was just granted the one and only compounding pharmacy license in the UAE (United Arab Emirates). The medical clinic will open soon in the Free Zone of Dubai Health Care City (DHCC). A Free Zone means being able to provide alternative medicine without fear of persecution that many doctors experience in the U.S. and Canada. The clinic will provide individual care but we have many other projects in mind. One is to reverse the trend in diabetes. And the solution centers on my favorite mineral, magnesium. Sweating is a way of life in Dubai and people sweat out minerals. Magnesium is required to regulate glucose metabolism, insulin entrance into cells and the proper function of the pancreas. Intervention with proper lifestyle education, minerals and vitamins can turn around the trend in diabetes. P.S. My basic recommendations on the various types of magnesium to take are on my website under Resources. Under books you’ll find my eBooks: How to Change Your Life with Magnesium, Future Health Now Encyclopedia and Death by Modern Medicine. For Detoxing I recommend LL’s Magnetic Clay and Magnesium flakes. For treating yeast overgrowth, IBS and digestive disorders, I recommend Prescript Assist. For Coconut products, whey powder and green powders go to Tropical Traditions. For food-based supplements Grown by Nature offers my readers a 20% discount on your purchases. At checkout, just enter the code: gbn123. NOTE: Only you can know if something is helping you. If you don’t feel well on a supposed beneficial product, listen to your body and stop taking it! Knowing when to Not take something is a big part of taking responsibility for your health! P.P.S. I cannot answer personal health questions by email. However, please send general questions that I may be able to answer in my blog. But first, google my name with the condition you are inquiring about and see if I’ve already addressed it somewhere on the web. |
