If you’re not getting enough deep sleep then your body isn’t able to “process your pooh” properly. It’s during the night that much of the process of elimination takes place (while daytime is the time for eating and assimilation).

Emails flooded my inbox asking me to write more about Thursday’s The Proof is in the Pooh wellness tip – where I explained how unhealthy bowel movements usually mean whatever diet you are following isn’t working for you.

But today I want to emphasize another major factor that can lead to constipation or loose stools: Lack of quality sleep.

Before electric lights our ancestors had little reason to be awake at night (as I explain in module 38 of Future Health Now!). Your body assumes a warring tribe from across the river is preparing to attack if you’re not sound asleep after 10pm (11pm Daylight Savings Time). This state of “fight or flight” diverts energy to your arms and legs and away from your stomach and colon.

After ten, your body revs itself up. You’ll probably get hungry and eat some cold food from the fridge. Instead of letting your body process it’s pooh… it’ll be forced to assimilate even more food — dividing its energies with double duty night shift. (Don’t think I can’t hear the punsters out there reading “double do-do” into the previous sentence.)

So if you’re not moving at least two large stools a day (that are the consistency of a ripe banana) try getting to bed earlier and see if it makes a difference.

P.S. If you’d like one-on-one time with me on the telephone to fine tune your health program click here to book a spot. There are still a few spots left in March.

P.P.S. In future pooh posts I’ll talk more about when to have those bowel movements and how many are enough. Until then, did you miss the original The Proof is in the Pooh wellness tip? You can still click here to read it now.

In addition to ridding herself of her gag reflex, insomnia and chronic muscle pain… a reader reported that supplementing with magnesium has allowed her to have consistent orgasms.

“I was on Paxil to keep my sanity,” Susan writes. “I was miserable.”

It wasn’t until she pulled out her 1971 Pennsylvanian State college textbook, Introductory Nutrition, that she first discovered the great need for magnesium.

“I am skeptical of diet books,” she says, “but I am not skeptical of university research. I immediately picked up two different magnesium supplements and took about 500 mg.”

After a few days: “My muscle aches magically disappeared except for my sore jaw (which I suspect will take a while to heal). I feel better than ever…. I am smiling more and being friendlier.”

She’s even started weaning herself off the antidepressant. “If I need the Paxil,” she says, “I will continue — but I suspect that the magnesium will do the trick.”

And now for the unexpected side effect…

“This is embarrassing, but it is also amazing,” Susan says. “After a week on magnesium, I had an ‘easy’ orgasm. Then a second time. I think: Gee, this is nice. Third time, I think: This is weird. Fourth time: It’s the magnesium!”

Makes perfect sense. Magnesium allows the muscles to relax.

In addition to making sure you get enough magnesium, try to reduce your consumption of alcohol, coffee and black tea (which cause you to urinate your magnesium supplies).

Otherwise, review Module 14 of Future Health Now! for my top tips on how to maximize your absorption of this mineral so you can experience similar magnesium miracles.

What you drop into the toilet each day can help you make many important personal health decisions like… Which diet is best for you… How much sleep you need… Or whether a particular supplement benefits you or not.

Now, I hope today’s wellness tip won’t gross you out. I was so annoyed when the technical editor for IBS Cookbook for Dummies tried to forbid me from advising readers to take a backward glance into the toilet. She didn’t want people becoming obsessed.

And I agree — forming the perfect bowel movement should not be your life ambition.

Nonetheless, healthy BMs indicate how your current health program is working for your body. Your stools should move 2-3 times a day, be large and the consistency of a ripe banana.

Otherwise, hard constipated stools indicate your body is too dry or tense. You may not be eating enough lubricating fats or are sensitive to drying food like potatoes, granola and apples.

Vice versa, runny or loose stools may mean you are actually eating too much cleansing fruits and raw vegetables and not enough protein and starches.

So as you experiment with lifestyle choices… “listen” to your colon. If you’re doing something that works for your particular constitution then the proof will be in the pooh.

P.S. I may put together a special report detailing how to adjust your diet and lifestyle based on the shape and frequency of your bowel movements. Please let me know if this interests you or disgusts you.

P.P.S. If you’re not going every day… you’re constipated. This is a toxic condition. I recommend you click here to check out Dr. Mauro’s free email course 7 Common Causes of Constipation (it’s written for women but applies just as well to men).

Last weekend, I listened to endless predictions (on my computer — I don’t own a TV) of a tsunami from the Chilean earthquake drowning Hawaii. It only reinforced what I have always said about the mainstream news: It’s trying to scare you out of your mind so you’ll go buy the stuff they advertise on their commercials.

Now, of course, I appreciate the tsunami warning – living here on this rock in the Pacific. To help stay positive, I threw a “Tsunami Party” inviting friends from the Maui shore to our house above the flood lines.

We watched the non-event as the news continued its “what could have happened” horror stories (from an alternative dimension where Hawaii is drowned under two mile high waves).

Why couldn’t they celebrate the fact we averted certain death (or at least some really inconvenient power outages)?

Needless to say, keep the news at arms length. They made people think the H1N1 would exterminate millions. Then they tried to convince the world that an airline passenger with a firecracker in his underwear signaled another 911.

This is just unnecessary stress. Stay informed but don’t get snowed under!

P.S. Click here to view a funny video, Everything is Okay, about how the mainstream news keeps people scared so they’ll buy more things they can’t afford.

P.P.S. One of the best ways I know to relieve stress and fear is not by shopping for stuff you don’t need – it’s with Meridian Tapping (EFT). Today’s the last day of the World Tapping Summit. But I heard they are replaying day one plus giving out some other free audios. So it’s not too late if you haven’t attended. Click here for more information.

The TV show LOST suggests that its mysterious South Pacific island emits magnetic radiation that rapidly heals the survivors of Oceanic 815 and other inhabitants of diseases and injuries.

Here in Maui I believe our island draws up similar vibrations from Mother Earth. I’m literally living on a mountain of molten rock that is taller than Mt. Everest (when measured from the ocean floor).

So am I suggesting you quit your job and move to “Reiki Island”? While that’s always a possibility… A more practical suggestion would be to unearth the healing paradise you live in right now.

I strongly recommend you make physical contact with the earth EVERY SINGLE DAY Even if it’s just some gardening or a barefoot walk at a local park or beach.

But what if you’re currently experiencing a frosty northern winter? I don’t want you going barefoot through the snow… Instead, touch (or hug) a tree with your bare hands. Draw negative ions up through its roots. At the same time you’ll be dispelling all the stress-producing positive ions you’ve collected in our techno-world.

Consciously and actively tuning into the earth’s healing energies is probably more powerful than unconsciously and passively living at a focal point like LOST’s island.

In Module 88 of Future Health Now! I give you special grounding techniques to help remove pain, tension and stress from your body. If you’re not already a member, you can become one by clicking here.

A Future Health Now! member asked a question about eating fruit and avoiding high blood sugar:

In Modules 31 & 32 you recommend eating fruit at least 20-30 minutes before a meal. But I thought it was better to eat fruit after a meal so that it absorbs more slowly and doesn’t spike your blood sugar level.

The main reason I discourage combining fresh fruit with protein, starch and fat is because it causes indigestion. The fruit breaks down quite quickly but can’t be absorbed because your gut is waiting for the other foods you ate to digest. In the meantime, since you’re not absorbing the sugar from the fruit – the bacteria in your gut has a fiesta causing toxic fermentation and gas.

Cooking a little fruit into your porridge is okay. Or a little fruit in a protein smoothie… Alright. The key word here is “little.”

Otherwise, eat fruit separate from meals. But only when you are truly hungry. First thing in the morning is good because your blood sugar is usually a little low anyway. Or eat it before or after you exercise.

Most people are a diabetic disaster waiting to happen — drinking soda pop constantly and eating donuts day after day. And here the health-conscious are fretting over what a little piece of fruit will do to their blood sugar.

Relax! A small portion on an empty stomach is perfectly fine. Yes, it may require your pancreas to produce a little bit of insulin – but that’s the pancreas’ job.

P.S. Of course, if you’re type 2 diabetic you may be better off avoiding sweet fruits altogether.

P.P.S. If you need help with digestive problems – that’s one of my specialities. I still have a few telephone consulting spots open for March. For more information click here

Despair Inc. released a poster showing an empty couch before a glaring television above the following words:

PROPAGANDA: What Lies Behind Us and What Lies Before Us Are Small Matters Compared to What Lies Right to Our Faces

Now, we all know about the propaganda that goes on during commercial breaks. Ads for toxic personal care products, junk food, cancer causing cell phones and chemical pharmaceuticals (I’m just sticking to health issues here).

But that’s just the OVERT propaganda. Don’t think you’re home free because you watch videos instead of commercial TV. The real brainwashing takes place during the actual “programming”. Do you seriously believe that the sponsors don’t influence the scripts?

And it’s not so much about what is said but what is not said. Just look at most TV shows. They aren’t questioning why cancer rates are going up. All the characters use cell phones constantly. Organic food is never brought up. If they are sick they immediately go get a prescription or dive headfirst into surgery.

So be very selective about what you watch and how much (like I show you in Module 20: Taming the TV of Future Health Now!). People tend to follow the crowd. If the crowd they “hang out with” is projected to them via a TV set… they’ll tune into those sets of values (or lack thereof).

While Avandia enabled people to lower their blood sugar doing nothing more than downing a prescription – we are now seeing that they were simply trading the risks of diabetes for the risks of heart failure.

After a two-year investigation, the U.S. Senate has released a 342-page report showing that the popular diabetic drug Avandia is associated with a 43% greater risk of heart attack.

The report says that the manufacturer (GSK) was well aware of the risks. The senators even caught the FDA and GSK conspiring to do a trial comparing two of their diabetes drugs to see which one killed the most people.

I’m not joking.

In the case of many diabetes drugs like Avandia… one must ask the question: How does it lower blood sugar? It doesn’t vaporize it! The simple answer is that it turns sugar into fat tissue.

Sure, you avoid life-threatening high blood sugar levels…. All the while you’re packing on the pounds, putting strain on your heart and creating a new life-threatening condition called cardiac arrest.

Ideally, drugs should be a short-term band-aid while you heal the real issue.

Instead of relying on a drug (for the rest of your life) to counter high blood sugar… Wouldn’t it make so much more sense to reduce your need to produce insulin? It can be as simple as taking an hour’s walk each day, cutting back on the carbohydrates and eating more vegetables and proteins.

If type 2 diabetes starts to set in… it’s not your body saying that you need a prescription for the Almighty Avandia. It’s telling you there’s a better way to live – and you’re missing out!

P.S. Don’t think for a second this that Avandia scandal is just a black spot on an otherwise white medical wall. Check out my book Death by Modern Medicine if you want to know what’s really going on by clicking here.
While magnesium is famous for helping people with constipation… taken the wrong way, this miracle mineral can cause a new problem: diarrhea. (Photo by Andrew Dunn.)

Joanne O. from Pennsylvania asks why supplementing with magnesium is causing her diarrhea…

I have difficulties whenever I have more than 400mg of magnesium. I tried taking 800mg for awhile and it always causes diarrhea… Is this normal?”

Generally, magnesium will cause diarrhea because not enough is being absorbed into your bloodstream. If it doesn’t make it into your bloodstream it ends up in your colon where it has a laxative effect.

Here are four strategies to stop magnesium from causing diarrhea…

Don’t take all your magnesium at one time. Have two or three smaller doses throughout the day.

Try taking your magnesium with high fiber meals. We are meant to derive magnesium from food which slows down its absorption.

Don’t take magnesium with meals. Yes, I know I just said take it with meals. That works for some and not for others. Fiber may bind up the magnesium too well preventing your gut from absorbing it. So try taking your magnesium on an empty stomach.

Try different types of magnesium. You’re probably using citrate. You can also try dimalate capsules which release slower. Magnesium oil is a great alternative as it bypasses your digestive system. And angstrom magnesium appears to absorb the best because it’s been broken down finer.

Review Module 14: Maximizing Magnesium from Future Health Now! I give step-by-step instructions, showing you how to determine how much and which types of magnesium you need. If you’re not a member consider joining. Click here for more information.

P.S. Because of the diarrhea effect most doctors discourage patients taking magnesium with medication. Find out why I disagree in my previous Wellness Tip from Future “My Goodness! Don’t Take Magnesium with That!” by clicking here.

Last September Dr. Devra Lee Davis, an epidemiology professor from the University of Pittsburgh testified before the U.S. Senate…

“Dr. Davis,” asked Senator Tom Harkin, chairman for Health & Human Services, “you said that a cell phone should not be kept any closer than an inch to your body?”

Dr. Davis nodded.

“Where does that come from?” asked Senator Harkin.

“That actually comes from the BlackBerry manual,” replied Dr. Davis, “as well as from the iPhone manual. If you read the manual — which almost none of us does — that is what they say.”

Seeing is believing… so I found a PDF copy of iPhone’s “Important Product Information Guide” online which states: “iPhone’s SAR measurement may exceed the FCC exposure guidelines for body-worn operation if positioned less than 15 mm (5/8 inch) from the body…”

The BlackBerry manual takes it 10mm further by advising: “…keep the device at least 0.98 inches (25mm) away from your body…”

So if you can’t avoid cell and cordless phones entirely – at least do what the industry’s own manuals suggest: Avoid any direct physical contact while they are activated.

Maybe that’s why people yell when they are on cell phones. They just may be the smart ones…holding their phone so far away they have to yell!

Otherwise, use a speaker phone whenever you can or check out my previous Wellness Tip from the Future about air tube headsets.
