A little while back I shared with you how I was food poisoned. In response, many readers wrote in with their top remedies for food poisoning. I thought I’d share them with you (with my comments in brackets). You never know when you or a loved one might need this information…
1. Organic apple cider vinegar in a glass of water. (This may serve better as a preventive measure. It’s also great for stimulating digestive juices.)
2. Slippery elm made into porridge. (This is generally good for any type of intestinal problems and is native to eastern North America.)
3. Probiotics every half-hour. (Essentially you bring in more of the “good” bacteria to take down the “bad” bacteria. This has worked very well for salmonella poisoning.)
4. Charcoal capsules. (Charcoal binds up toxins quite well. I don’t recommend you use them regularly, though, as they also bind up nutrients. Save them for emergencies.)
And, again, homeopathic arsenicum is my first choice for food poisoning symptoms. Another would be carbo vegetable. Another possibility is pulsitilla.
Of course, avoiding food poisoning in the first place is your best approach. Freeze and reheat leftovers. Stick to quality restaurants. Keep your kitchen clean and always wash food before you prepare it.
