Take Magnesium Not Calcium – Dr. Carolyn Dean MD ND

Take Magnesium Not Calcium

March 16, 2013

The American College of Cardiology (ACC) hosted about 15,000 health professionals at their San Francisco conference March 9-11, 2013. The ACC puts on several conferences each year each heavily financed by hundreds of drug company exhibitors.

Of these 15,000 health professionals and hundreds of presenters, what did they have to say about magnesium?

They debated the recent studies reporting that calcium supplements increase the risk of heart disease. They did say “It is uncertain exactly how calcium supplements work to increase MI risk.” Anyone reading my blog should know by now that calcium precipitates into arteries and soft tissue because of magnesium deficiency. And also because of not enough Vitamin K2 from traditional foods like butter from grass fed cows, liver pâté and fish roe.

From the bone specialists, a MedScape report states that “Scant evidence supports the notion that calcium supplements alone significantly decrease the risk for osteoporotic fracture, yet these supplements remain one of the most popular treatments taken by adults in the United States.”

So, there is no longer a reason to use calcium and maybe we can begin to educate more doctors about magnesium. But that may be a problem because Vitamin D has replaced calcium as the nutrient of choice for doctors to recommend.

Here is a story from one of my blog readers about her experience with Vitamin D.

“Things that have been happening to me are making more sense as I read your newsletters about Vitamin D. I started taking 5,000 iu of vitamin D (plus some Omega 3 fish oils) in October 2010 and I did great! I could walk without a limp again, my knees stopped hurting, my feet stopped hurting. I was and still am a true believer and user of Vitamin D & Omega 3. BUT I had a scary episode of Angina in March 2012 and that’s when I started taking the Natural Calm.

I believe now, based on your articles, I was taking too much Vitamin D and it may have caused the Angina. I always take my Natural Calm regularly. I am such a believer in Magnesium now, you, just don’t know, and I’m so THANKFUL for you and your work. I just cannot thank you enough (with tears, and REALLY with tears :).

You just don’t know how frustrated I am now about how I was treated by the doctors while I was in the hospital with my Angina episode. They were no help at all in solving my Angina health issue… all they could say is “This is stress related.” and prescribed Ranexa for me while leaving scared for my life for the two weeks between my hospital stay and finding your website.”
