Medicine Is Merely Risk Management

June 26, 2014

When Management took over health care, the patient was no longer the focus – money became the focus. And the risk management was not the risk to the patient receiving improper care – the risk was to the bottom line of how much money could be made. When Management took over, they had to create a new hospital department called Patient Advocacy because patients were no longer the focus.

What is the definition of Risk Management? The forecasting and evaluation of financial risks together with the identification of procedures to avoid or minimize their impact.

Who’s running Management? Health maintenance organizations (HMOs). By definition, they provide or arrange managed care for health insurance, self-funded health care benefit plans an individuals, and act as a liaison with health care providers (hospitals, doctors, etc.) on a prepaid basis. HMOs control the purse strings of medicine. They tell you what doctor you can see, what drugs you can get and what surgery you are entitled to.

In articles about hospital management, I never read about keeping patients healthy. Patients are just widgets in the medical conveyer belt. Everything in medicine has become standardized and routinized.

For example, anyone who has a heart attack, no matter how mild, is put on 6 medications. Even if they have no symptoms of high cholesterol, high blood pressure or high blood sugar, most people are automatically put on a standardized set of drugs. They even come in jumbo-sized blister packs to make sure you don’t forget to take your daily dose.

Why? Because doctors know that most people who have a heart attack develop cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes. What they don’t know is that the heart medications themselves cause all those conditions – mostly due to the magnesium deficiency created by these drugs.

When I went to medical school we were taught to give drugs for as short a time as possible until the body took over. Now, drugs are being used preventively. This very lucrative practice is encouraged and it leads to drug side effects and even more drugs to treat the side effects.

Seriously – your only defense is to get healthy and stay healthy. I recommend my Completement Now! Online Wellness Program. And for something more expedient – click on my blog Dr. Dean’s Supplement Recommendations.
