Reprogramming Your Thoughts

Reprogramming Your Thoughts

It’s probably not surprising to learn that the conscious and subconscious minds are somewhat disconnected. For example, you may consciously decide to stop drinking coffee. However, your subconscious only knows that you drink coffee every morning. Imagine your subconscious as a computer program that is programmed to automatically prepare coffee each morning at 7 a.m. despite your conscious mind’s opposition, it continues to operate, seeking some way to succeed.

When Cycles Are Broken

If, however, you imagine yourself not drinking coffee (or at least not frequently) and not really caring for it, then your subconscious mind would behave differently. In essence, you are reprogramming your subconscious. You’d override the instructions that say to have coffee at 7am. Ultimately, a habit is just something you’ve been doing for a long time, and it can be replaced by the habit of not doing it! You can override “bad programs” and create “good ones” using positive visualizations.

Creating A New Vision For Yourself

Instead of picturing yourself without coffee, imagine yourself invigorated by another beverage or food. Or, visualize yourself getting more sleep so you don’t feel the need for coffee. Or, see yourself getting up thirty minutes early so you can exercise outdoors – invigorated by fresh air instead of stimulated by caffeine.

Amazingly, your mind really can’t tell the difference between reality and imagination. The world is nothing more than a series of incoming signals. It will choose images that contain the strongest feelings (good or bad). It is important to remember that a belief is nothing more than a thought that has been ingrained into your mind over time. However, you can challenge the belief that you are a coffee drinker with the belief that you are actually a water, tea, or juice drinker. With the help of simple visualizations, it is possible to reprogram your brain toward most goals in the same way.
