Protecting Your Feet

The feet are probably the most difficult part of the body to keep warm at night. Your feet are often left all by themselves at the end of the bed, unlike your hands, which receive warmth from your torso. Even if you don’t experience cold feet at night, this could be because your body is working overtime to pump blood to your feet and toes. This is where socks come in handy. Wearing socks at night reduces the effort needed to keep your toes warm, slowing your heart rate down and helping you sleep better.

It is a wise idea to keep your socks underneath your pillow so you don’t forget them when you need them. Once in bed, and you realize your feet are cold, it’ll just wake you up if you have to start searching for socks (if you bother at all). Or you’ll just lie there trying to tuck one set of toes under your calf.

Homemade Feet Warmers

If you find that your toes tend to get particularly cold at night, you might want to try putting cayenne pepper in your socks. Start off slow. Turn your socks inside out and put 1⁄4 teaspoon on the bottom of each sock. Gently turn them outside-in and slip them on. Some people use 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper for maximum effect. If you notice your feet get dry after wearing socks all night, massage them with a thin layer of your favorite moisturizer first.

Using Blankets

For those who are uncomfortable wearing socks, you may consider folding an extra blanket at the foot of your bed. This can provide an additional layer of insulation for your feet. You could also place a warm water bottle at your feet.
