If you own a website, have written a book, or otherwise would benefit from some free publicity, I want to tell you about a new project my sister and I are up to…

Three years ago, my sister, writer and EFT expert Christine Wheeler, and I wrote IBS for Dummies. Jeffrey Roberts, President and Founder of the IBS Association described it as “…the most complete and current book about IBS [Irritable Bowel Syndrome] that has been written to date for the non-medical reader.”

Well, we are working on a sequel: The IBS Cookbook for Dummies.

I’m a Doctor, Not a Chef!

Now, I know what type of ingredients and cooking methods may help or hurt IBS. But turning those foodstuffs into 100 delicious dishes isn’t my specialty. Nor do I want to spend endless hours in the kitchen creating an original IBS buffet.

So we’ve decided to accept submissions from people who suffer (or have suffered) from IBS or cook for someone with IBS. We’ll review all the recipes that come in, select our top picks to test out ourselves and then filter that down to the specific recipes that will get printed.

This book will hit the “Dummies” shelves of bookstores across the English-speaking world. If you have a website, have written your own book or otherwise would like to get your name out there — then this is your chance. We’ll print an attribution including website addresses.

In case you think I’ll be making a mint off other people’s efforts… I assure you the royalty checks hardly compensate the time it will take to aggregate all of these recipes. The benefits I see to book publishing are a way of getting valuable health information to the public and as a form of PR. So I’m just sharing the PR opportunity and hoping we can all have some fun helping IBS sufferers.

What Exactly We Are Looking For…

Just so we are on the same wavelength, IBS (as I define it) is a condition where someone suffers alternating constipation and diarrhea — along with gas, bloating and intestinal pain.  In many cases there is a connection to yeast overgrowth, lactose and/or gluten intolerance.

I’m specifically looking for recipes that…

  • sooth IBS
  • relieve diarrhea
  • encourage regularity (i.e. remove constipation)
  • don’t trigger “flare ups”

Now, because food intolerances can vary greatly with IBS patients, recipes that cover a wide gambit will be accepted. At the moment, we are planning on organizing them by the following chapters…

  • Raw Recipes
  • Vegetarian Recipes
  • Gluten-Free Recipes
  • Dairy-Free Recipes
  • SCD (Specific Carbohydrate Diet) Recipes

You can email your recipes to recipes@drcarolyndean.com. All submissions must be in by April 30 (but the sooner the better). If we decide to use your recipe we’ll contact you. If you know any chefs or friends who like to cook, please email them a link to this post (you can use the Share This! tool below)..

Thanks for your help!
