Cellular (cell or mobile) phones first became widely available in the United States in the 1990s. Since then, there’s been a large and still growing number of cell phone users. With the convenience of wireless technology) comes unwanted health risks. Studies analyzing the association of cell phone use and ill health are so contradictory that everyone is confused.
Cell Phone Pros and Cons
The Pros
• Cell phones use a very, very low level of radio frequency energy – too low to cause damage.
• The type of energy emitted is non-ionizing – meaning it doesn’t cause damage to chemical bonds or DNA.
• Hundreds of millions of people have been using cell phones and cordless phones for years. If there were a problem, we would have seen it by now.
The Cons
• They emit microwaves.
• They produce heat.
• You hold the source of the emission close to your brain.
• There are claims that people have had brain tumors as a result of long term cell phone use.
Just to be clear, because you use a cell phone, cordless phone or wireless internet you are not automatically going to develop cancer. I don’t like to spread fear and rumours of fear. And I believe that your attitude is your best defense against things that haven’t been scientifically proven. If you don’t think something is going to hurt you, it won’t. But at the same time you take steps to diminish the possibility of harm! If your attitude is that you love and appreciate your cell phone and see it as a harmless servant, you have a great chance of avoiding any negative effects.
Wireless Symptoms
If you notice any of the following symptoms when using a cell phone, cordless phone or other wireless device, it’s an indication that you are very sensitive to the electromagnetic radiation these devices produce:
• headaches
• warmth on the ear
• burning sensations of the facial skin
• dizziness
• nausea
• fatigue
• poor memory
• lack of concentration
If this is the case for you, you may very well need to limit your use of wireless only for times when you have no other options.
Fungus, Yeast and Wireless Technology
Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, Ph.D, cites experiments that show fungus will begin to reproduce rapidly when exposed to wireless technology. Dr. Klinghardt performed a mold plate experiment which compared a mold plate shielded from electromagnetic fields to an unprotected mold plate exposed to electromagnetic fields. The unprotected mold plate showed a drastic increase in the number of spores produced. If you already have an overgrowth of yeast in your body, wireless technology may be unhealthy for you.
Heavy Metal Antennas
Heavy metals work like antennas. Heavy metals stored in your body may play an important role in the amount of radiation you absorb from wireless technology. Having mercury fillings removed from your mouth and regularly detoxing (as I’ll show you in future modules) will reduce heavy metals in your body; therefore, the amount of radiation you absorb will be reduced as well.
However, until we get to those modules, use a magnetic clay bath product. Simply blend up 1/2 to 1 cup of clay in your blender with lots of water and pour that into your hot water foot bath or tub. Soak for 30 min and shower off. Do a bath or footbath at least three times a week, more if you have time.
Psychological Implications
If you use wireless technology a lot, you should make sure that you have a good feeling about what you are using -.Cell phone and interactions have, for many people, replaced a lot of quiet time: walking, doing chores around the house, driving in the car, etc.
While I’m not saying there is anything wrong with that type of multi-tasking we should consider whether they’re absorbing all our all our “thinking and reflection time.” With cell phones we are always “on call”; always on alert. Is this type of mobile social contact replacing face-to-face contact? Human beings and their physical bodies are designed to live in a community. A flesh and blood community — not a virtual one.
Limiting Your Exposure
Cell phones and other mobile devices can be set to “airplane” mode (where the signal is shut off completely) when you are not using them. it’s a good idea to use it as much as possible. Unfortunately, many other wireless devices will continue transmitting even when idle. Use the speaker phone function or an air tube headset (more about these later) with your cell phone and limit its use. Turn it off completely when you are sleeping.
Cordless phone systems and WiFi, on the other hand, are a different beast. They are constantly acting like a mini cell phone tower broadcasting from within your own home. These devices – which aren’t limited by battery power – are working 24 hours a day. Of course, they don’t have to be. Going back in time ten years to phone cords and computer cables is the healthiest alternative. Sure, guests will be in shock to see you using such primitive technology.. Nonetheless, having a “place” for things (e.g. your computer, your phone) and not toting them around all the time can add order to life.
But if you’re set in your mobile ways, the next best answer is to turn all this radiation off at night. If you are following the Sleeping Without Electricity Strategy then you may already be doing this. This way your body gets an eight-hour break each night from the various transmitters you have broadcasting in your home. (Boy, have we come a long way from the days of party lines.) If you’re not able to turn off the circuit for those rooms that power your your internet router, you can usually just pull the adapter plug out of the back of the unit.
Many people have their charger on their nightstand beside their bed. Not recommended. Likewise, don’t put your internet router near your desktop computer — since that’s where you’ll be working. If your workplace uses WiFi, find out where it is broadcasting and ask to move your workstation as far away as possible. Keep in mind too, if you have small children, their skulls are much thinner and more susceptible to this type of radiation. In such cases, make sure the head of their bed is not up against a wall which has the base station on the other side.
Headsets
One of the best precautions with mobile devices is to keep them away from your body. Use a speaker phone whenever possible. Regular headsets or Bluetooth may only amplify the radiation – so I don’t recommend them. An air tube headset is a better idea. Much like how a stethoscope works, air tube headsets use a non-metallic tube carrying the sound from the cell phone to your ear. Just keep in mind that you still want to make sure the phone itself is not near your body. Place it on a table, your car’s dashboard or in a titanium suitcase (just joking). Putting on an air tube headset then stuffing your cell phone in your pants pockets near your reproductive organs might be fine if you feel you’ve already populated the world with enough children…but I wouldn’t recommend it.
How to Make it Happen
1. Ideally, cancel your cell phone subscription. If you need one for emergencies, get a very basic plan and leave the phone off and stored away in your glove compartment or bag. But, I understand this isn’t the stone age, so let’s discuss some other options.
2. Make sure to turn off mobile devices and all other wireless technology at night – preferably and most easily when you cut power to all circuits in your house (except the refrigerator).
3. Use an air tube headset or the speakerphone setting on your cell phone.
4. Otherwise, follow a healthy lifestyle, so that your body can mitigate or repair any damage caused by the electromagnetic fields of wireless technology.
Take It Seriously but Not Too Seriously
Unlike smoking, the health issues around wireless technology are invisible and easy to ignore. A lot is unknown. The mobile industry continues to grow rapidly. Every day we are being exposed to more and more wireless technology as new cell phone towers go up and more and more places offer free WiFi. The real safety evaluation is happening on a global level and we really don’t know for sure how safe or harmful wireless technology is. But, try following the suggestions I’ve made in this strategy for reducing your exposure and see if, after 30 days, you feel better and whether you notice the difference. If you do, then stick with it.
