The SuperBrain Yoga technique reminds me of an exercise that my sister Chris taught me.

Her technique involved crossing your arms at your elbows, twisting your forearms around each other, and clasping your hands.

I’ve seen this move in yoga postures as well. It’s a grounding technique. In fact, anytime you cross your arms, clasp your hand together or hug yourself, you’re performing a grounding exercise. SuperBrain Yoga goes one step further. You cross your forearms, but instead of clasping your hands you grab the opposite earlobe and then you add a squat. SuperBrain Yoga is the name of a book by Choa Koa Sui but you don’t really need the book to do this exercise.

The technique uses the principles of acupuncture and the energy meridians and ear acupuncture points to helps energize and recharge your brain. Superbrain Yoga® is being used by school children. Because it’s such a simple technique children can greatly benefit from it.

Studies show significant increases in academic and behavioral performance, greater class participation, improved social skills and increased brain electrical activity in the children who use SuperBrain Yoga®. It’s not just kids who can benefit from SuperBrain Yoga. Anyone who’s stressed out or anyone who wants to relax can receive benefits from this exercise.

Performing the Exercise

In SuperBrain Yoga, grabbing onto your earlobes with your forearms crossed over your chest while doing a squat is what you are trying to accomplish. You may or may not notice a change immediately, but after a few days or weeks of regular practice, you will notice that your concentration has improved.

  1. Stand comfortably
  2. Facing forward, hold your right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger with the pad of your thumb.
  3. Hold your left earlobe with your right thumb and index finger with the pad of your thumb.
  4. Press your tongue to the roof of your mouth.
  5. Inhale through your nose, and slowly do a squat.
  6. Hold your breath.
  7. Exhale as you come out of the squat to a standing position. Continue holding your lobes and sticking your tongue to the roof of your mouth.

Repeat this exercise 14 more times for a total of 15.

Make It Happen

This is a very straightforward exercise, so I’ll opt for a very short module giving you plenty of time to practice!

Here’s what you do:

Grab your earlobes, tongue on the roof of your mouth, inhale as you squat down and exhale as you stand.

The result: brain expansion – what more do you want!

You can view some SuperBrain Yoga YouTube videos to get a better idea of the exercise.
