Book Dr. Carolyn Dean on Your Podcast

For podcast hosts and producers

Choose the hour your audience has not heard

Dr. Carolyn Dean, MD ND, qualified in medicine in 1978, has written more than fifty books since, and has been a guest on other people’s shows for four decades at no charge. She teaches rather than pitches, states the limits of her own evidence before you ask, and is better for being pushed. What changes from show to show is the subject. Five are set out below, each with its own page, its own reference and its own question set. Everything else here is true whichever one you pick. How she works on air

Five things you can count on in the hour, whichever subject you pick.

She teaches rather than pitches.

Generic nutrient language, no brand names, and no turning your episode into an advertisement. Her educational work is kept deliberately separate from the supplement company she founded, and she says so if asked.

She is better for being pushed.

Four decades in front of a microphone, with over eight hundred logged appearances between 1986 and 2012 alone. Sceptical questions make the segment better, and she knows it, so the hour bends toward the hardest one.

She states her limits first.

When the evidence is a small uncontrolled pilot, a contested test or an estimate built on other estimates, she says so as she goes, not afterwards. That candour is what makes the strong claims credible.

She reasons from mechanism.

Every segment lands on something a listener can picture: a transport route, an enzyme, a competing molecule, a clock read from a blood spot. And every figure she quotes arrives with its author and its year attached.

She comes ready for your show.

The reference, a question set built for the doorway you chose, and the media kit come before you record, and the time is confirmed in both time zones. Audio-only, video and live all work, remotely.

The practical details

Everything that normally takes three emails to establish. If something you need is not here, ask with the booking.

Format and length Audio-only, video, or live; solo interview or panel. Thirty to ninety minutes, and she is comfortable with long-form.
Recording platform Whatever you already run. She records on a professional microphone and webcam, wired connection, quiet room.
Location and time zone Hawaii (HST, UTC-10, no daylight saving). Morning HST works for US afternoons and European evenings; afternoon HST suits Asia-Pacific mornings. Every booking is confirmed in both time zones.
Lead time Two to three weeks is comfortable. Shorter is sometimes possible for a timely hook. A pre-interview call is fine if that is part of your process.
Promotion Episodes are shared with her newsletter list and across her channels. Send clips or graphics and they will be used.
Cost None. No appearance fee, no sponsorship requirement, and no affiliate arrangement attached to the interview.

Questions producers ask

Does she charge an appearance fee?
No. There is no fee and no sponsorship requirement. She appears because the education is the point.
Will she promote products on our show?
No. Her educational work is deliberately kept separate from the supplement company she founded, and she speaks in generic nutrient terms, magnesium, vitamin C, the B vitamins, rather than brand names. If a listener asks where to buy something, we would rather she point them at a book.
Is there any affiliate or commission arrangement?
Not attached to interviews. Booking her creates no financial relationship with you or your show, which keeps the episode straightforwardly editorial. Separately, and entirely optional, there is a partner programme on published terms for hosts who want a commercial relationship after the episode has run. It is never a condition of appearing, and it is never discussed on air.
What if our episode does not fit one of the subjects?
Use the general request. Those are the subjects she is actively booking, not the limit of what she can talk about. Telling us the subject up front is what lets us send the right question set and the right reference.

Three ways to work with her, and only one of them involves money

The interview costs nothing; books go to you, your producer and your listeners if you want to run something for them; and a host who wants a commercial relationship with her company once the episode has run can have one, on published terms. The third never comes up on air and has nothing to do with whether she says yes to the interview.
