Human metabolism in humans encompasses a complex set of chemical reactions that convert food into energy with the ability to switch fuels back and forth from glucose to fats. It works with building blocks necessary for growth, repair, and maintenance of bodily functions. It encompasses both catabolic processes that break down molecules to release energy, and anabolic processes that use energy to construct cellular components. There is a lot going on and to do it all, metabolism depends on magnesium, trace minerals, B vitamins, and essential fatty acids that may falter with age and diminished nutrient intake.
Hormone

The science of nutrition and synergy
Metabolic function and hormones are among the most mineral-dependent systems in the body. Magnesium is the clearest example: the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements notes the role of magnesium in normal glucose and insulin metabolism.
