Mitochondrial Function and Cellular Energy

Lens: Regressing, Improving

Mitochondria are the tiny power plants inside your cells that create cellular energy that is used in every cell in the body. Mitochondria turn the food you eat into ATP, the energy every tissue runs on. As we age, mitochondrial output tends to slow, which shows up as fatigue, slower recovery, and less resilience. TruDiagnostic’s TruHealth panel reads mitochondrial markers as a percentile, where higher means stronger, and supporting the minerals mitochondria depend on is part of a sufficiency minded approach to healthy aging. In fact, ATP is really designated as Mg-ATP because magnesium is necessary for ATP to exist.

“We are both calm and alert. Our friends and relatives think it’s just who we are, but it’s really how much magnesium we have in reserve.”

Participants improved their mitochondrial markers over six months, this was one of the markers that moved the most and affected the most people in the Study.

Behind that number are ten everyday people, ages 34 to 79, who followed the same daily Maui ReSet Protocol for six months while living ordinary lives. Cellular energy was where some of the clearest gains showed up, and it did not move the same way for everyone. Two participants saw the strongest mitochondrial shifts. The full picture, including the participants whose readings held steady or rose, is told on the study page. Click Here. Here is what that looked like, in their own six months.

Biggest mitochondrial gain in the pilot

His mitochondrial marker climbed from the 20th to the 75th percentile over six months. He reports full days back in the garden and energy he had not felt in a long time. You can find James’ story here.

Resilient at 79

The oldest participant in the study. She was hospitalized mid study and still finished stronger, her mitochondrial marker rising from the 14th to the 62nd percentile. She wants to keep going. You can find Sarah’s story here.

The RnA ReSet nutrients behind it

Cellular energy made in the mitochondria is a mineral story, and the foundational nutrients bring these together. ReMag® leads, with ReMyte®, Pico Potassium® and ReAline® in support. Swipe to see each.

Lead formula
ReMag®

ReMag®

Highly-absorbed picometer-sized, stabilized magnesium ions, the required cofactor for the enzymes that make and use ATP. Magnesium supports steady cellular energy output and helps buffer oxidative stress.

ReMyte®

ReMyte®

Twelve stabilized, highly absorbed trace mineral ions, some of which act as cofactors for the electron transport and the antioxidant enzymes that mitochondria depend on.

Pico Potassium®

Pico Potassium®

Potassium as a highly-absorbed, picometer-sized, stabilized ion works hand in glove with magnesium for the fluid balance and nerve signaling that steady energy supplies.

ReAline®

ReAline®

Four methylated B vitamins with L-methionine and L-taurine. The B vitamins are also important in the function of mitochondria, feeding the one-carbon chemistry the energy pathways draw on.

The science of nutrition and synergy

Cellular energy made in the mitochondria is a mineral story. Magnesium is the cofactor the body uses to make and use ATP. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements notes magnesium’s role in energy production and in normal muscle and nerve function. This is what ReMag® supplies, stabilized picometer-sized magnesium ions the body can absorb, while ReMyte® adds the trace minerals that act as cofactors for the enzyme processes and antioxidant function that mitochondria rely on. Taken together at daily optimum levels, they support the whole energy system. The B vitamins are also important in the function of mitochondria.

Independent research places magnesium at the center of this biochemistry. A 2026 review frames magnesium as a bioenergetic checkpoint linking mitochondrial function, metabolic health, and aging. Earlier work shows that magnesium deficiency impairs the mitochondrial production of ATP and lowers antioxidant capacity in aging, and that mitochondrial magnesium balance decides a cell’s energy status. In a model of premature aging, dietary magnesium restored mitochondrial ATP and improved lifespan.

These findings are mechanistic and drawn largely from laboratory and animal models. They are about the nutrient rather than this product, and human results vary.

Commonly asked questions

What are mitochondria, and why do they matter for aging?

Mitochondria are the tiny power plants inside your cells that turn nutrients into ATP, the energy your body runs on. As we age, mitochondrial output tends to decline, which can show up as fatigue, slower recovery, and less resilience. Replacing the nutrients the mitochondria depend on can stop this decline and support healthy aging.

How does magnesium support cellular energy?

Magnesium is a required cofactor for the enzymes that make and use ATP, so the body cannot produce cellular energy normally without optimum amounts. ReMag® delivers stabilized magnesium ions the body can easily absorb, supporting normal energy biochemistry in your cells.

What is ATP?

ATP, adenosine triphosphate, is the molecule your cells use as energy currency. Nearly every process in the body, from muscle movement to thinking, burns ATP. Producing it depends on magnesium and other minerals. Keeping those minerals sufficient supports normal energy production.

Why take magnesium and trace minerals together?

Minerals work in balance, not in isolation. Magnesium runs the core energy enzymes, while the trace minerals in ReMyte® are cofactors for the associated reactions and antioxidant defenses that mitochondria rely on. Taken together at optimum levels, they support the whole system rather than one piece of it.

Will magnesium lower my biological age?

We cannot claim that supplements reverse aging or change a biological age test on their own. ReMag® is necessary for normal cellular energy, nerve, and muscle function and also for healthy aging.
