Dr Dean Diaries
This blog is mainly about the Maui ReSet Study, but I have to mention of a couple other “hobbies” I have embraced here in Maui. There’s my Charitable Foundation – ParaGenius at www.ParaGeniusFoundation.org. An even bigger “hobby” is the 76 acres of Oko’a Farms and two Farm Stores that I financially support.
With ParaGenius, I wanted to provide a way for interested people to donate to Oko’a and receive a tax deduction. This 501(c)3 Charity also gives us access to state programs to provide a worksite for people “sentenced” to community service; admission to local schools so we can sponsor children’s farm tours to teach them about organic farming and organic produce; and a volunteer opportunity for residents who want to support Oko’a Farms.
The Maui ReSet Study Begins
From our Tuesday and Saturday Farmer’s Market communities and a series of wellness talks I did at the Wailea Health Center, in 2025, Julie Simon and I gathered ten locals to become our test subjects for the Maui ReSet Study. Julie was a very effective and popular member of our Customer Service Team at RnA ReSet/New Capstone. When she retired, I invited her over to Maui for a vacation that turned into a work project. And I can truly say, this study would not have happened without Julie running point, and guard, and every other position required.
Julie was on island at the same time Ginney Sanders, my Chief of Operations in North Carolina, and I approached the PhD whose company ran our Purdue Study in 2020 (which proved the stable nature and high absorption of ReMag stabilized ions in humans). We asked him if we could do a “survey” study of our customers to give us some statistics about their health and resilience from taking our Completement Formulas. He told us “point blank” that it wouldn’t be accepted as a valid study. I was feeling frustrated at not being able to do this survey, and to my annoyance, he started talking about a new study he was doing using epigenetics with methylation receptor site quantification to assess biological age. But it didn’t take us long to realize this was a study that we could do ourselves.
The Study I’d Always Wanted to Do
Let me backtrack a few decades, because this is the type of study that I’ve always said needs to be done with dietary supplements. I would rail against the millions of dollars spent on testing a drug against another drug, or against a placebo, simply to sell drugs. I wanted to make people healthy, not just treat the symptoms of disease.
So, I’ve always said we should take a group of people, put them on a standard set of supplements and document their results. Very simple, never done. But at this point in time, with this new breakthrough in epigenetic methylation testing we had an excellent measuring tool of aging – and it would keep us away from saying we are treating disease, which the FDA insists only drugs are capable of doing.
Recruiting the Maui ReSet Study Participants
Julie and I immediately recruited people from my very next wellness lecture and the Farmer’s Market population. We ordered at-home finger prick blood test kits from TruDiagnostic and developed a symptom questionnaire. The group of eight women and two men ranged in age from 34 to 79.
The participants made appointments for their first test. One woman was too ill to come in person, so Julie went to her home to take the blood test. A grand finale to her story is that she drove to her final test and couldn’t stop talking about her new-found health.
Participants filled out the questionnaire three times: at the time of their first test and last test, and in between at the beginning of the 4th month. They were given a month’s worth of 7 formulas: ReMag, ReMyte, Pico Potassium, Pico Zinc Plus, ReAline, D3K2, and Vitamin C ReSet Berry Powder, and instructed on dosage. Each month they picked up their next supply and regularly told us how well they were doing.
The Maui ReSet Study Results
I’m not going to go over the study details and results here – except to say that 7 of the 10 participants slowed their aging or their pace of aging. The range was 1.2 to 5.6 years.
Let me compare The Maui ReSet study to the COSMOS – a two-year study of 1,000 people on Centrum Silver who slowed their aging by Four Months, which was heralded as a major breakthrough!
For the fascinating details, our marketing team put together a 31-page website within DrCarolynDean.com. Using your phone or computer, you can go to the website and click on the link, “Enter the Study,” on the Maui ReSet Study banner page at the top. On the next page, scroll down below the banner and you’ll see the Navigation Bar to start exploring. The White Paper gives a great overview; you can read about the participants; you can follow the aging marker statistics; and the organ aging markers are also fascinating.
Beyond the Numbers: What Participants Experienced
At the personal level of the study, day-by-day, and week-by-week, people were sharing how hopeful they were feeling, how their sleep was improved, about newfound energy, aches and pains disappearing, medications being reduced (under doctor’s supervision), and even losing weight. We would see most of our participants at the Farmer’s Markets and get impromptu reports, or, as I mentioned above, they would report to Julie when they picked up their monthly allotment of formulas.
The Problem With the “Gold Standard” of Nutrition Research
The interaction with our subjects was very positive, but I couldn’t help but be disillusioned by Nutrition Research in general because I knew that because the Study wasn’t double-blind, placebo controlled, it could be ignored. As I usually do, when I see a blind spot, I’m inspired to write a new book. I called this one, The Tarnished Gold Standard of Nutrition Research, that critiques the whole notion that nutrition or dietary supplements should be studied just like drugs.
Why Isn’t Anyone Interested?
Another point of disillusion is that in the past week I’ve sent out information about the Study to about 100 professionals pointing them to the White Paper, and so far nobody seemed even a little bit interested. Am I to conclude that people don’t want solutions? Is everyone in their own silo and don’t want to engage with anything else? Is there just plain “information overload?” Are people cynical and skeptical of anyone saying they have a solution to the health care crisis? Do I represent competition with what they are “selling” or “pontificating about as specialists”?”
Where My Drive for Inquiry Began
Actually, in my world, I want inquiry and dialogue. My Dad brought me up with his “personalized Boy Scout Motto.” It was “Happy, Holy, Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise!” I was second-born of four daughters, and I was his surrogate son – I got the complete “son’s” education – hammering nails, building walls, threading a live worm on a hook, vegetable gardening, boating, and more. He even wanted me to take over his welding company having tried to soften me up with an office job in the summers. He gave me the perfect motivation for academic excellence by asking me what happened to the two other marks when I brought home a 98-point test score.
My mother was a Brownie leader – that’s the pre-Girl Guides group for little girls. As a trained nurse she was camp nurse at Girl Guide camps for most of the summer, so I learned camping skills from a very young age. I’m talking about making tables out of wood branches, pitching huge Army tents, and cooking meals on the campfire.
With the subtle guidance of my two parental units, I developed the sense that I could do anything I set my mind to. One day, in my teens, my mom told me that a couple of Girl Guides were very happy to learn that I couldn’t sing – “At least, there’s one thing she can’t do!” they beamed.
The Great Work
So, I’m perfectly happy where I am and ready for more! And writing part of my “autobiography” in these blogs, I see that I have been truly blessed to be doing “The Great Work” that I talked about in the early blogs.
To me, “The Great Work” is sharing your blessings with others – shedding light, which is available to “Whosoever Will” – and dissolving the darkness and ignorance.
