From the Desk of Carolyn Dean MD ND

When I was in private practice in Toronto, half of my patient population came to me as a Resort Doctor – the Last Resort. The other half wanted to stay well and were all about prevention and longevity. So, I got to practice medicine in both extremes. I liked the challenge of diagnosing a chronic condition and helping coach a person back to health, but I truly enjoyed keeping people healthy. And that’s what I get to do every day with my podcasts, blogs, radio show, and my dietary supplement company!

Let’s look and see if allopathic medicine even knows the definition of preventive medicine.

What Dr. Google or an MD might say about disease prevention and longevity

I’ve been sharing the Dr. Google information in my blogs lately because it’s important for me to know and share the kinds of information that people are being fed when they research health topics.

Men who search online for information about disease prevention and longevity are provided with a number of factors to consider:

  • Healthy Diet: Limit red meat and processed foods and consider more plant-based eating.
  • Physical activity: Exercise at least 30 minutes a day.
  • Substances: Avoid smoking, use of alcohol and drugs.
  • Sleep: Get 7 or 8 hours of sleep a night.
  • Stress and mental health: Reduce stress, engage in hobbies, socialize regularly.

Men who engage in this kind of self care are more likely to live longer, healthier lives according to Dr. Google.

What I say about prevention and longevity for younger men

My research shows that young men are interested in finding more natural ways to prevent high blood pressure and high cholesterol and to support prostate health. All these topics are dealt with in detail in my book Total Body Reset for Men [link] but I will give you some insights here while you’re waiting for my book to download.

High blood pressure

You can read my Blog about high blood pressure [here] as it pertains to both males and females. Mainstream medicine refers to high blood pressure as “the silent killer” as it comes with no real symptoms and regular medical checkups always come with a blood pressure check. Now, the target “healthy” normal blood pressure has been lowered so that anyone with a BP over 130/80 is now considered to be high risk. Allopathic medicine claims that lowering the cut off for high blood pressure and treating early is PREVENTIVE MEDICINE.

This is a dangerous move because younger and younger men are being prescribed combinations of BP drugs that carry a whole bucketful of side effects. Doctors congratulate themselves that they’ve “caught” the problem early which translates into relatively young men being destined to take HBP medication for the rest of their lives.

Side effects include leeching minerals like magnesium from the system leading to what I call “magnesium deficient heart disease”. Heart disease is being created, not prevented!

High cholesterol

Like high blood pressure, high cholesterol has been tagged for men to track because it’s said to be a risk factor for stroke and heart disease. Dr. Google is telling younger and younger men to get their total cholesterol below 200 to avoid these risks. Some fanatic doctors say 180 would be an even better measure.

Your body produces 80% of the total cholesterol it requires. The rest comes from diet. Cholesterol is not the bad guy, it’s an integral part of cell membranes, hormones, neurotransmitters and dozens of other important functions.

When I was in medical school, the average cholesterol level was 245, so this medical trend to get your cholesterol down below 200 deprives your brain and your reproductive system of necessary fats and hormones! Lowering cholesterol could slow the connections that facilitate thought and memory. AKA Dementia!

Statins

Mainstream medicine has been blaming heart disease on cholesterol and so Big Pharma stepped in with its dangerous solution: Statins. They tell patients that if they have even a slightly elevated cholesterol that they have to take stains to PREVENT heart disease. In my book, Death by Modern Medicine, I provide an in-depth account of the dangers of this highly prescribed drug. One example is that statins cause a whole spectrum of muscle weakness and pain up to and including debilitating and life-threatening muscle damage. Many people who take statins don’t know that their new aches and pains and arthritic symptoms are due to statins. Their doctors keep telling them that they’re just getting older!

NOTE: Sorry for all the exclamation marks. But Lord Sufferin’ Cats, Allopathic Medicine has flunked Preventive Medicine!

Prescribing drugs as prevention … not on my watch

I have seen an unfortunate trend in clients where doctors are no longer content with a normal cholesterol or normal blood pressure reading. They are now prescribing strong and potentially toxic medications as a preventive measure, with no science to back them up. I just learned of a new class of cholesterol drugs that you can take ALONG WITH statins to keep bashing cholesterol. People with normal readings are even prescribed these drugs because a relative had the condition. Doctors say that when you have this risk factor you need medication.

For some perspective on the changeability of blood pressure and cholesterol, you can take a deep breath and drop your blood pressure by 10 points! You can yell ‘Boo!’ at a person and scare their cholesterol up 10 points! Read on for ways to naturally manage these “conditions”.

NOTE:  I’ve said many times that cholesterol mainly acts as a band aid on a tear in an arterial wall while the body is waiting for vitamin C to make more collagen to repair the wall. If you are low in vitamin C, the wound remains, and the cholesterol builds. Then, if you are low in magnesium and as a result have too much calcium in your blood, calcium will precipitate on the cholesterol patch. When that cholesterol patch or plaque breaks off, it can cause a clot in the heart of brain.

Prostate health

Once a man turns 50, he’s told by Dr. Google to have regular prostate screenings. In terms of prevention of prostate related problems, healthy diet and lifestyle are suggested as mentioned above for general health. Men are also encouraged to ejaculate regularly.

One in two men by age 50 has benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or enlarged prostate; ONE IN TWO! (Sorry, more exclamation marks). This walnut-sized gland swells in response to several possible triggers: hormone imbalance (too much estrogen and dihydrotestosterone [DHT] and too little testosterone), estrogen-mimicking chemicals from the environment, and zinc deficiency. Medically, BPH is said to be a normal part of aging, and the symptomatic medical treatment is with drugs and surgery.

The protection of the prostate for younger men, in my opinion is easily managed with adequate intake of zinc and other nutrients and a decent diet that helps avoid environmental toxins.

Supplements to support your longevity: [this area needs You!]

In addition to the healthy diet, exercise and lifestyle choices that I talk about in all my books, here are some suggestions for supplements that men can get started on to support your blood pressure, cholesterol and prostate.

For both blood pressure and cholesterol concerns:

Magnesium should be in the picometer, stabilized ionic form. And the dose should be around 600mg per day. This liquid magnesium is diluted in a liter of sea-salted water and sipped throughout the day. Magnesium is necessary for the proper function of 80% of known metabolic functions. Magnesium relaxes heart muscles and the smooth muscles lining blood vessels. and naturally dilates them causing blood pressure to normalize without any side effects. We have had countless customers tell us that their blood pressure and cholesterol levels normalized when they began taking our formulas. Our May 12, 2025, radio show featured a 90-year old customer, Newman, who reported that he has to wear a catheter because of his prostate enlargement. He was able to toss it in the garbage after using our picometer magnesium.

Vitamin D is a prohormone, which regulates the production of hormones as well aiding the absorption of calcium to protect our bones. Most vitamin D blood tests show that we may need about 5,000iu a day along with a dose of vitamin K2. Remember, magnesium is necessary for the activation of vitamin D.

Vitamin B Complex – a methylated and food-based B complex formula along with two sulfur-based amino acids provides several vitamins that are necessary for adrenal support and detoxification as well as all the critical methylation functions of the body.

Multiple Minerals – picometer, stabilized mineral ions support thyroid hormone production as well as adrenal and sex hormone balance.

For your prostate:

I suggest supplementing with3 sets of minerals: picometer magnesium, picometer zinc/copper, and picometer multi-minerals for prostate health.

I know you’re reading this blog because you’re already tapped into the kind of information I share about illness and disease and their underlying explanations, solutions and interventions to achieve health and wellness. And I know you’re likely frustrated because you’re in possession of this information that could help someone you care about. Please forward this blog to someone you care about who is interested in disease prevention and longevity for younger men.
